X-CARVE
Designing and assembling a milling machine and mobile enclosure for a new Pitt makerspace
The Swanson School of Engineering was developing a new makerspace to be used for senior design, and needed an X-Carve milling machine to be installed. The challenge was to construct a completely mobile set-up including a stand, enclosure, and monitor mount.

X-Carve Assembly
Much of my role on the project involved the assembly and calibration of the machine itself. I utilized online resources from Inventables to guide my work.

Stand Assembly
We used a design that has been used in other makerspaces, but added casters for mobility. The stand surface is stacked MDF sheets mounted to speed rail supports.

Enclosure Assembly
A previous team developed an enclosure design, so we used this to construct ours as well. Acrylic sheets were laser cut for the panels.

Workstation Mount
Low resolution prototypes were created to test workstation designs, however due to time constraints we bought a monitor mount and adjustable mobile desk on Amazon. We hope to implement our ideas for future iterations.
